Situated in San Francisco between Union Square and Oracle Field, this 12-story Class A building was erected in 1983. As part of a recent renovation project, Sky Climber provided a new window-washing platform system to replace an aging one on the building’s roof.
The primary challenge for this project was to design a system that would safely and effectively deliver a powered platform up to and over the parapet walls that circle the roof. The parapet walls are 7 feet tall and curve inwardly toward the center of the building, rendering standard davits unusable. To meet this challenge, Sky Climber’s engineering team designed new sockets and davits that streamlined the overall look of the system while eliminating angle extensions.
The davits for the system stretch 14 feet tall with an outreach of 8+ feet, granting plenty of vertical space for the 10-meter Permanent Installation platform to cleanly negotiate and clear the 7-foot parapet walls. The 10-meter stage is a Modular SSU Platform for Permanent Installations and is powered by two LNX 1250 Hoists.
