Sky Climber Europe was recently asked to provide equipment necessary to the repair and refurbishment of two harbor light and helipad towers in Europoort Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The light tower / helipad structures were built in the mid-1970’s at the height of Europoort’s growth into one of the world’s busiest ports. The concrete towers were constructed on either side of the Nieuwe Waterway and feature synchronous high and low lights that make them more recognizable against an industrial background with a lot of light.
Atop each 100-foot tower sits an octagonal helipad of steel construction. Towers themselves house machine rooms, oil tanks, and temporary living quarters.
Due to the limited load-carrying capacity of the helideck – which needed to remain accessible at all times – Sky Climber used its lightest platforms possible. To provide access to the underside of the helipad structure, Sky Climber provided lightweight stages, end stirrups, and hoists. By shifting the platform, the entire helideck could be accessed. In addition, we supplied a round platform with walk-through stirrups that conformed to the dimensions of the towers.
