Currently under construction in Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood, a residential tower at One South Halstead is taking shape. One South Halsted is on track to become the city’s tallest building west of the Kennedy Expressway and will boast 492 rental units, 375 parking stalls, and nearly 10,000 square-feet of retail space on its ground floors.
Sky Climber equipment is utilized throughout the worksite, most noticeably with a monorail installation used for installing glass panels on the parking garage structure.
This monorail track is affixed to the top of the 80-foot-tall garage structure with Adjustable Parapet Clamps. A material hoist affixed to the track can then lift glass panels from ground level, while extended-reach Parapet Clamps suspend a Sky Stage Ultra platform that is operated with man-rated LNX 1000 Hoists. Installers on the platforms use the monorail-mounted material hoist to lift and maneuver glass panels into place in a checkerboard pattern that provides screening while allowing ventilation.
Above the parking structure, the ellipse-shaped tower rises 44 stories high and now displays a distinctive spiral-shaped metal and glass window pattern. On its uppermost floors, Slab Edge Clamps and Rolling Roof Rigs suspend more material hoists and Sky Stage Ultra platforms for crews completing tasks on the building’s exterior. These stages feature Compact 1000 Hoists, Sky Lock IIIs, and fixed and adjustable corners that help stages conform to the tower’s curved design.
